Asthma, Xolaire, and the Fact That Miracles Can Really Happen

Hi, my name is Laurali Star, and this is my story.  Grab a mug of herbal tea, bundle up in your blankets, and make yourself comfortable. This is a short story, but a heartfelt one.

Right out of the gate, I want you to know a few things about myself and why I created "The Mermaid Detox Diet."  I was a very, very sick child growing up.  I had a severe case of asthma, so bad in fact one of my lungs collapsed, and I spent my childhood, teenage years, and young adulthood in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices.

Everyone in my family thought that I would die in childhood and one of my relatives thought something else had to be wrong with me, like cystic fibrosis, because everything, and I mean literally everything, made me sick for weeks and months at a time.

I lost a lot of my childhood memories, I believe, because of a lack of oxygen to my brain.  There are entire parts of the childhood years, that are completely blacked out for me and I think that's why.

I had a compromised immune system and when tested for allergies, my back lit up like a Christmas tree.  My Mom told me that when I was a kid I used to tell people that I was allergic to everything.  People, grass, plants, everything.  In all honesty, I was.

When I turned 13 and officially became a teenager, I remembered that I was fascinated with magazines of healthy girls.  Girls doing sports, working out, and eating healthy.

That was the year that even though I had a breathing machine, I decided that I was going to work out. There were times when I was wheezing through my workouts, and while not recommended, I kept going because I wanted so badly to beat this thing and have control over what was happening to my body.

This went on for years and years, me trying to get in shape, and being pushed back by the horrible asthma attacks.  When I was in my late twenties, I finally went to an asthma and allergy specialist.  It was during this visit I was told that I had the lungs of an eighty-year-old woman and that if this kept up, I was going to die within ten years.

Naturally, I was devastated.  I was a young mother, married, with three daughters at the time.  This couldn't be happening.  I was afraid I wouldn't be around to see my little girls grow up, get married, and have their own children.

Miracles Can Really Happen!

There was a solution to all of this.  It was called Xolaire and at the time it was new and experimental in the medical field.  There was just one, huge problem though.

It was $1,500 per injection and I needed an injection twice a week, every week, for at least a solid year.  Xolaire blocks Immunoglobin E (IgE), a substance that creates the allergic response at a cellular level.  This was the cure and I needed it.

Thankfully, my Mom intervened and was able to help me get sponsored by the company itself.  They paid for everything!  It took a few months to notice the difference, but I started feeling better a little at a time.  I could breathe again!

While I still have a crappy immune system, Xolaire really did save my life and so did Dr. J. Wayne Phillips, my asthma, and allergy specialist.  Today, I can do things that I never could before.

I can work out every single day if I want to.  When I'm on the treadmill, I can build up to a run.  These are things that most people take for granted and I'm so thankful for being able to breathe and do exercise without having a full-on asthma attack.

What happened to me was a true miracle!  I believe that it took prayers, action, and the help of the medical community, to bring this miracle about.  I'm very lucky, more than ten years later, to still be alive.
