Zero-Waste Soap Bar Challenge

Try the Zero-Waste Soap Bar Challenge to get started with zero-waste today!  You got to start somewhere, right?  Start with something as simple as a bar of soap minus the plastic, like this heart-shaped one in my pictures that my daughter Veronica made me.

I have to admit, I didn't learn about zero-waste until recently.  I knew that recycling was good, but not good enough.  I didn't know how to take it next level until I heard of zero-waste.

To be honest, I'm still learning!  I was raised to respect the earth and was brought up with green-living parents, for the most part.  In return, I brought up my kids the same way, only bringing more information to the green table, because I knew more.

I always thought I was doing pretty good yet intuitively knew I could do better.  Here are some of the things I've done right so far with going green:

  • I recycle my plastic and paper goods
  • I eat a plant-based diet and generally live a vegan lifestyle
  • I use green bags and jars as much as I can, though sometimes I lapse on that.
  • I use green bulbs
  • I turn the water off when I'm brushing my teeth
  • I try to keep the lights dim and keep my a/c temperature at about 80 degrees, except for at night.
  • I clean up the environment when I go hiking in nature
Zero-waste is definitely the next step and it's hard one.  I figure if I can give up meat and dairy, then I could probably do anything, you know.

Zero-Waste Soap Bar Challenge

Since going zero-waste is a difficult challenge for me, and maybe for you too, I thought I'd start with one thing.  A natural bar of soap with no plastic wrap or box.

That's it, folks, that's the challenge.  What do you think?  Can you do this?  I think starting out with just one thing leads to other things.  You know, the gateway to being eco-friendly!

Make sure that your bar of soap has no plastic or box and that it's made from natural ingredients that didn't harm any animals in the process.  That's it.  I believe in you.  I believe in me.  Together we can do this!

Eco-Friendly Tips

  • Try to eat a more plant-based diet.  You can even become a vegan, which you can try with my vegan starter kit for cruelty-free living.  Not ready to make the full commitment?  That's okay, you can start with one of my vegan recipes, maybe this one.
  • Go for a walk in nature to connect with nature spirits.  Fairies and the like will lead you to make better environmental choices.
  • Grow your own organic vegetables like Chloe and I did.
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle!  This one is a given but still, it's worth mentioning.
  • Participate in clothes swaps on Threadup.  Buy clothes that are like-new but have been used before.  Vintage is always a good option!
  • Use green bags and bring your own containers
  • Invest in a good water bottle that's long-lasting, so you no longer have to purchase water bottles.
  • Compost!
  • Do a plastic bag detox!

Zero-Waste is the Future

It all starts with a bar of soap.  It's honestly that easy to go waste-free.  Then, once you've got that down, branch out!

It's going to lead into bigger, better things, like getting rid of single-use plastics.  Maybe your next goal, like mine, will be to go completely plastic bag free.  Let's face it:  We can always do better!
