My Super-Sweet Plant-Based Diet

Welcome to my super-sweet plant-based diet!  It's where I talk about my diet and what I'm eating every week, for inspiration and motivation.  If you'd like to learn more about becoming a vegan, try my Vegan Starter Kit for Cruelty-Free Living!

Early this year, I had wanted to try to become a raw vegan.  In fact, at first, it was one of my new year's resolution.  Then I tried and knew that I didn't like it.

There were tons of things about it that I did love, and I will take those with me.  What I didn't love, was how inflexible it was.

Then I got really, really sick in January and did what I lot of people do, which is turn to my vegan comfort foods.  A lot of those are processed and not really good for my gut.  It involved a lot of tv dinners and crap to snack on.

Once I started, it was hard to stop.  Vegan tv dinners and snacks are easy.  About a month ago, I decided to keep a food diary to see where my problems lie if any.  This helped me to see where I'm at so I could style a diet that was after my own heart.

Food Diaries Don't Lie

One thing that stood out to me, is that I'm an emotional eater.  I would put in my food diary how I was feeling that day.  On days when I was sad or worried, I ate a lot!  I also have issues with binge eating too, but that's mostly around the time of monthly moon.

Food diaries don't lie.  They tell you exactly what you're putting in your body and how much.  They are a great tool for when you need to reevaluate your diet.

I also noticed that the tv dinners were the main thing I was eating, which isn't really good for my colitis, which you can read about here.  All of this leads me to create the diet that I want, in addition to my vegan diet.

The Happiest Diet You'll Ever Try!

What I really wanted was something similar to the raw vegan diet, but with more cooked veggies.  I'm sorry, but I really like my baked potatoes and roasted asparagus.

My new diet goes something like this:  Eating both cooked and raw veggies and fruits.  Lots of seeds and nuts.  I love fats like nuts and avocados.  So, I'll get plenty of what I need and want.

I'm giving up all the bread and pasta for good.  I really don't like them that much anyway.  I do love flour tortillas, but I can live without them.  I will still have a vegan pizza once in awhile, of course!  Tacos and veggie burgers can both be eaten with a leaf wrap, so that's not a problem.

It's good to keep stuff for special occasions.  I'm still going to have vegan brownies and sweets.  Not every day or anything, but sweets are the one thing I can't give up!

Let's see, what else?  I also plan on continuing to use my vegan butter (a healthy fat) and my vegan cheese.  I may someday be ready to give up all processed foods, but I can't see it happening anytime soon.  Life is too short, not to eat what you want!  Within reason, of course.

Here's the thing:  This isn't about weight or anything like that.  It's about me living the lifestyle I want to live.  I feel healthier and "cleaner" when I eat this way.  If you'd like to try it too, check out The Happiest Diet You'll Ever Try!
