Fall Head Over Heels in Love With Your Body

You can fall head over heels in love with your body by reading this post!  Most women have struggled with this from time to time.  I know I have.  Let's work through it and move past it!

I'm not here to tell you that it will easy or to give you false hope.  Falling head over heels in love with your body requires a lot of you mentally.  Believe me, I know.  I still have to work on it and my body every single day.

There might be apart of you at first that thinks losing the weight will fix it.  It can help, but coming from someone who has lost weight in the past, and who has spent the majority of her life on the thin side, loving your body comes from someplace deeper.

The Story I Was Telling Myself

It has to come from within!  Back in 2012', I lost a bunch of weight after gaining weight from a harsh breakup and a really difficult time in my life.  You can read my story here.

The moral of the story is that it didn't change anything.  I looked better and felt better in many ways, but on the inside, I still hated my body.  It didn't take long for me to start complaining to my guy friends about the different parts of my body I was insecure about.

The weight really was just a number after all, because I never addressed the issues that had caused me to gain weight in the first place.  The deep-rooted insecurities would begin to surface in other ways.

I was grappling with an eating disorder and issues that had surfaced from being sexually abused as a little girl, and how I allowed that to somehow bleed into other areas of my life.  So, what happened to my body as my insecurities surfaced?

I began to slowly gain back a lot of the weight.  My eating disorder turned into a laxative addiction.  I began to obsess over the numbers on the scale and my meals so much, I started gaining weight and losing muscle.

Now, here I am.  It was important, to tell the truth, my real story so that I could see how I landed where I am today.

Homework Assignment:

Tell yourself the story you've been telling yourself for years about your body. Be completely honest with yourself, even if it hurts.  Blog about it, Instagram it, write it down or record your voice.  This will help you acknowledge what's going on beneath the surface so that you can then tell yourself a brand-new story!

 My New Body Love Story

Now, I have to clean up the mess that's been made and tell myself a new body love story.  In 2018, I have really been tackling the issues head-on.  It hasn't been easy, but it's worth it to fall head over heels in love with my body again.  The right way.

For starters, I've taken some time off from dating and relationships.  At first, it wasn't really my choice.  It just sorta happened and hasn't stopped since.

Now, it is completely my choice because I realized the reason I didn't want to get involved with anyone was that I didn't love myself yet.  How can I expect someone to love me if I don't truly love myself?

Homework Assignment:

Make your relationship with yourself your number one priority!  Even if your married, it's important to practice self-care and self-love.  If you're single, take some time away from the dating world to rediscover who you are.

Bringing Fitness Back

I've also started working out again.  At first, I did some serious strength-training for fast results plus hiking.  My arms were my favorite thing to come out of that.  I was also hiking a lot, at least a few days a week.

I decided to pare down my strength training and trade it in for my yoga mat.  I will still strength train in addition to yoga, mainly just a couple of moves that have made a huge difference in how my body looks and feels.  Yoga is my mainstay!

If you want to build body confidence, try some yoga, as it is challenging, fun, and amazing!  I realized that there were certain things I didn't like about strength training.

It made my muscles look a little on the bulky side.  I'm not saying that's the case for everyone, but I'm an extremely petite woman.  I wanted long, lean muscles yoga is my new sidekick in life!

Another side effect of strength training was the weight gain and the tightness of my clothes.  Again, as someone who is on the petite side and has struggled with body image, this has made me feel absolutely terrible about myself!

I'm just being honest.  I also think that it doesn't help that I had already gained quite a bit of weight before I started working out.  You wouldn't look at me and see an overweight person by any means because I'm not.

I just really like being tiny and petite and for my clothes to fit nicely.  Strength training didn't do that for me.  Yoga, on the other hand, does!

Homework Assignment:

Find your fitness thing!  For me, it's yoga and hiking because of mind, body, and soul.  I recommend trying strength training, hiking, taking long walks, swimming, yoga, pilates, whatever is going to get you back on track to loving your body!

Admit That It's Time To Lose the Weight

Okay, this one is really hard for me.  I went from 96 pounds after losing all the weight in 2012 to now being around 116 pounds.  Some of that is muscle like I said, I've been working out a lot this year.

The truth is, I need to lose weight.  I tend to gain weight in my mid-section and hips since having children, plus, I'm kind of petite curvy.  The picture you saw at the beginning of this post was from 2014 and I can say that I'm quite a bit bigger than that now.

Losing weight helps two-fold.  It will help my clothes to fit and also fit nicely again.  It will also help make the muscles in those hard to reach places like mid-section more visible.

My plan to lose weight this time isn't as hardcore as my 2012 weight loss plan.  Last time, I went to extremes to lose the weight, because I was very overweight for my height and frame.  Believe me, I've got the pictures to prove it!

Homework Assignment:

Ask yourself:  Do you need to lose weight? Be honest with yourself.  Acknowledge it and sit quietly with it for a half hour.  Then decide on how much you'd like to lose.  It's okay if you don't want to put a number on it.  You can just start and keep going till you feel your in a good place.

My Weight Loss Plan for Summer 2018'

My weight loss plan is to lose weight by changing my diet first and foremost.  I cannot emphasize this enough: If you want to lose weight, you can't just workout, you have to make dietary changes too!

Really, diet and fitness should go hand-in-hand.  That's part of my plan.  Hey, that rhymes!

I plan on upping the ante with yoga.  My plan is to do yoga for 90-days in a row.  Basically, the entire summer!

Quick Tip:  It is perfectly safe to do yoga every single day!

I also plan on taking my yoga to the next level.  Originally, I was going to try to advance past intermediate, which I've been sitting at for years.  This morning, I realized that I'm still pretty out of shape when it comes to yoga.

I've decided to stay at beginner to intermediate and do longer yoga sessions instead.  I'd like to work up to 90-minute sessions.  In addition to that, I will also be doing it for 90-days straight which will give my immune system a boost and keep me from getting sick for the duration.

I'm also planning on hiking more.  Yes, summer is a little grueling, especially when you have to endure a Florida summer.  However, if I get to the hiking trails early enough, I should be okay.

Now for the diet!  I plan on eating one square meal each day and juice for the rest of my meals.  I do really well when I lose weight fast.  I'm an impatient person and need fast results.

This will also help me to eat more mindfully and less mindlessly.  Know what I mean?

Homework Assignment:

Create a body love action plan!  For me, it was making a diet and fitness program that fits me perfectly.  Feel free to do the same or alter and tweak things to make them your own.

To get started, activate your fitness, follow me on a week-long juice fast, or try the happiest diet ever!

If you want to lose weight or eat healthier, try to give your food diary an analysis!  This will help you to assess what changes you need to make!
