Raw Fairy Trail Mix

Raw fairy trail mix is the perfect snack to nosh on while hiking, at work, or post workout.  It's really easy to put together and it has the perfect blend of carbs for energy, protein for satiety, and fiber for keeping your digestive system on track and in the clear.

It's important to note that while I use peanuts, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds as my nut mix, you can alternate with cashews and other nuts too.  In other words, you can personalize it and make it your own!

Why fairies?  Well, this snack mix was inspired by nature and the fairies.  To me, it looked like something that birds and squirrels would eat.

Also, this is the perfect trail mix for hiking, birding, and various nature endeavors.  While I was creating, I asked the fairies to add a secret ingredient to it, because it felt like something was missing.  Hence the name!

The secret ingredient, which I so often like to slip into my vegan recipes, is flax seeds.  Flax seeds are amazing for recipes, as they can be sprinkled into smoothies, cereals, and salads for good measure.

That being said, let's talk nutrition for a minute, shall we?  The nutrition behind a recipe is just as important as the ingredients used to make it.  It's how it makes your body work.

Nutritional Info

Raisins - are a great source of carbohydrates.  Carbs are what give you energy and fuel you throughout your day.  They are also high in fiber.  Fiber keeps you regular, while B vitamins are also known for their energetic powers.

Peanuts - are what we consider to be a "good" fat, meaning unsaturated fat, like that found in peanut butter.  This helps to lower LDL cholesterol, which lowers the risk of heart disease.  They are also a very good source of protein, which keeps you satisfied longer after a meal.  Protein lasts longer because it burns calories slower.

Pumpkin Seeds - are part of the nut/seed family.  Pumpkin seeds are a good carbohydrate to use to fuel you and push you harder during a workout, a hike, or a mountain climb.  Like peanuts, pumpkin seeds have a good amount of protein.  They are also a magnificent source of iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and copper.  Iron helps carry healthy oxygen to your blood cells, while everything else listed helps create a glowing complexion, healthy hair, and strong nails.

Sunflower Seeds - are a dynamic source of vitamin E, which protects the body from free-radicals, which is great news for your skin.  It also keeps your nerves even keel with a decent amount of copper.  For skin, hair, nails and the prevention of birth defects, it includes, vitamin B1 and B6, folate, magnesium, selenium, manganese, phosphorus, and niacin.

Flax Seeds - stand for omega-3 essential fatty acids, which lower blood pressure and prevent heart disease.  A very heart-healthy seed.  They are also high in fiber, which means they keep your digestive tract running smoothly.  They are considered a superfood and are plum-full of rich antioxidants, making them super healthy for you!

Hit the Trails With the Fairies

When hitting the trails, be sure to call on the fairies.  This is one of their many natural environments.  They can prevent you from getting lost, show you short cuts, and lead you to cool spots that are downright magical!

While in the forest or climbing a mountain, pay attention to the quietness around you.  Listen carefully.  Feel the feelings of the quiet.  You may receive a message from a fairy.

On occasion, you may even be lucky enough to have a rare fairy sighting.  Some people have the ability to physically see them, directly or from a peripheral view.  Others may see an image or likeness come to mind clearly and in detail.

If this should happen to you, it means that a fairy is trying to communicate with you.  Don't be surprised if shortly after, you feel inclined to pick up trash.  That means the fairies are working on you, without you even knowing it.  That means they trust you and are building a connection.
